I approved shipping the computer to a service center for repair, and the technician told me that he expected the motherboard with the CPU would be replaced.
When the notebook arrived back at the store in three weeks, I was upset to learn that the hardware was not mentioned in the report except in the condition comments, which stated that the unit showed no signs of wear or abuse and that no repairs were performed: Vista was reinstalled because of "one missing and one corrupt system file, but all is well now. There's honestly nothing I can think of that turns me off to this laptop. The first thing you'll notice when you buy it is the build quality. It's built like a tank and is strong, reminds me of my carbon fiber Vaio Z, except better in quality.
If you're thinking about getting this laptop, get it. Lately, however, a new failure mode has surfaced, specifically that when I power up, I get the HP logo, then I see the spinning dots, they do exactly HALF a circle, then the laptop HP Envy 14-2020nr Notebook Synaptics TouchPad off. Further, unless the BSOD happens while the system is up and running, I get no memory dump files at all, like there's no record that a failure ever occurred.
